BURLINGTON CITY HALL – 1928

Burlington, VT

Designed by McKim, Mead, and White, Burlington City Hall is part of the City Hall Park Historic District. Anchoring the southern end of Church Street, the building is home to the mayor’s office and numerous city departments. During its first floor reconfiguration project, VIA paid special attention to its historic features, like the marble staircase and heavy wood doors, taking care to preserve their integrity while upgrading the building to modern functionality. Acoustical panels added throughout the building will ease the reverb from the marble and the doors and trim were reinstalled in new locations. Relatively inaccessible arched windows with lovely views to Church Street and City Hall Park now bookend renovated lounge space on the third floor, giving prominence to another of the building’s charming historic architectural details (see more of Burlington City Hall).
