In 2012, the town of Westport selected VIA to study the existing town office building to determine the feasibility of renovating it to better serve its users and community long-term. Listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings, the town office building served many functions in the community – from grange hall to roller rink to its current municipal function. The three-story 8,000 sf building steps down a hillside to the east with great views of Lake Champlain and Vermont beyond. After receiving a state grant in late 2014, the town began work on the building’s renovation, including a new lift, appropriate egress stairs, new finishes, and substantial envelope improvements for energy efficiency and comfort. A restored curved ceiling arches over original flooring, with shuffleboard markings serving as a reminder of the building’s storied past.
