WESTPORT TOWN OFFICE BUILDING – 1928

Westport, NY

In 2012, the town of Westport selected VIA to study the existing town office building to determine the feasibility of renovating it to better serve its users and community long-term. Listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings, the town office building served many functions in the community – from grange hall to roller rink to its current municipal function. The three-story building steps down a hillside to the east with great views of Lake Champlain and Vermont beyond. After receiving a state grant in late 2014, the town began work on the building’s renovation, including a new lift, appropriate egress stairs, new finishes, and substantial envelope improvements for energy efficiency and comfort. A restored curved ceiling arches over original flooring, with shuffleboard markings serving as a reminder of the building’s storied past. (See more of the Westport Town Office)
