VIA 2025 Summer Tour

In early July, the VIA team took a break from designing and spent the afternoon touring various projects in the Waitsfield/Warren area. We began our journey with a lunch and tour at Yestermorrow Design/Build School, with whom we have a long-standing relationship. Maclay Architects worked with the school in the early 2000s to develop a campus and phased building master plan and VIA professionals have taught or taken classes there over the years. We toured the campus, including the recently completed “Bunkhouse” and two container homes in progress.

From there we visited “Mountainside Residence,” a 2009 Maclay Architects project on the slopes of Sugarbush Ski Resort featuring breathtaking views and columns made of debarked maple trees harvested onsite.

We also enjoyed a sneak peek into the late David Sellers’ whimsical concrete house, “Archie Bunker,” built by students from Yestermorrow along with Sellers. (The house is available to rent on Airbnb.)

Our final stop on the tour was in the Waitsfield 10 community. Rotating crews of Yestermorrow students designed and built this unique home over ten years. Other architecturally interesting homes in this subdivision are well underway or recently completed. It was great to get the whole VIA crew together to celebrate some of Vermont’s most interesting architecture.
