PORTER MEDICAL CENTER – 1925

This project addressed accessibility issues at the main entrance to Porter Medical Center’s historic 1925 building. While no longer a primary entrance to the hospital, the upgrades returned prominence and appeal to this front entrance of the building. The project reworked the exterior stair to allow the addition of an accessible ramp along with required landings, and reworked the entry doors and vestibule to provide the required sizes and associated clearance areas. We also improved traffic and pedestrian circulation, drainage, and landscaping. We preserved features with historical significance, such as recessed panel details in the side of the ramp, steel railings, side railings, and a transom window over the entry door, while meeting functional and budgetary requirements.
