DR. HENRY JANES HOUSE – 1890
Waterbury, VT
The Janes House served as the Waterbury Public Library since 1915, when prominent doctor, civil war veteran, and beloved resident Henry Janes bequeathed the building for such purpose upon his death. Following the damaging floods of Tropical Storm Irene in 2011, the town of Waterbury decided to house its municipal offices and library in an addition to the historic Janes House, which would then become the home of the Waterbury Historical Society. Beautiful details from the Janes House, including hand-blown glass windows and intricate woodwork were restored, while structural and energy efficiency upgrades stabilized the building for years to come.
