GREYLOCK GLEN OUTDOOR CENTER

This project was designed by Maclay Architects staff, who are now VIA employees. Construction was completed following their transition to VIA. We celebrate their work then and now!
Nestled at the base of Mt. Greylock, the Greylock Glen Outdoor Center welcomes visitors to experience the natural beauty of the area while enjoying amenities of a four-season resort. Whether stopping in for trail information, dining at the on-site restaurant, or attending an educational program, visitors will notice the tall wood columns, the massive windows facing Mt. Greylock, and the large stone fireplace.
The Outdoor Center is designed to connect to its surroundings and to nature. As you approach the Outdoor center, the three roof gables relate to the three surrounding peaks: Mount Greylock in the center, Cole Mountain to the southeast and Ragged Mountain to the north. Surrounding the building are direct views of Mount Greylock, a small stream, a pond, and the Glen Loop Trail at the heart of the 1,063-acre property.
Designed and built to be Net Zero, the Greylock Glen Outdoor Center will reach that goal upon completion of a solar carport. The building will likely influence future projects in the Berkshire region as a highly energy-conserving model of sustainability and resilience. Though mostly designed and constructed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was completed very close to the budget.
