BRANDON FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY

Brandon, VT

The Brandon Free Public Library is comprised of an 1830 federal style gable front building and a 1967 annex that connects the library to adjoining apartments constructed in 1850. Facing Central Square in Brandon, it is a key contributor to the historic downtown area. The library is a hub for community learning, interaction, and support, serving residents in surrounding towns in addition to those in Brandon. This project included a full renovation and restoration of the existing building, with three additions to accommodate new stairwells, an elevator, entry porch, vestibule, accessible bathroom, and new programmatic spaces. By addressing accessibility, life safety, energy efficiency, and functionality, the project ensures the library’s ability to better serve more patrons and adapt to future needs. Phase 3 of the project will create a new space for community gathering in the charming attic area.
