The Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC) plans to move its headquarters to a new location on Baldwin Street in Montpelier’s Capitol Complex district. VNRC selected VIA to help restore the historic “Gibson House,” built in 1880, for office space, with the goal of achieving net-zero energy. The exterior appearance of the building will remain unchanged while improvements to the inside include weatherization, accessibility and life safety upgrades, and a transition to all-electric, fossil fuel free heating and mechanical systems. Nearly all materials for the project have low-embodied carbon, including recycled foam insulation. Plans for the site include multiple demonstration stormwater mitigation strategies. VIA is especially pleased to be working with VNRC, given our shared values around preserving and regenerating our precious natural environments, supporting healthy community development, and managing careful expenditure of our resources.
