Slade Hall – University of Vermont

Burlington, VT | 2014-2017

Slade Hall is an historic student residence that houses students with a specific, shared interest in environmental issues. Student residents of Slade live together as a family, growing their own food, eating together, and sharing living spaces.  VIA collaborated with Slade students and Rubenstein Environmental Science faculty for the programming and design of the building. Designed by McKim, Mead, and White and constructed in 1928, it is a solid, stately building that has served the University well for many decades and has the potential to do so for a long time to come.  Energy upgrades and general restoration aim to make Slade Hall a model of sustainability and energy efficiency.
